The Painted Journal | Bonnie Stahlecker | June 10-11, 2023
Workshop Title: The Painted Journal
Workshop Time: 9:30am - 4:30pm
Workshop Date(s): June 10-11, 2023
Location: 2905 S Elati Street, Englewood, CO USA 80110-3073
Workshop Fee: $285
Materials Fee: $30 per student
Please note there is a Scholarship available for this course, application link up in the banner or Contact tab.
Workshop Description:
Create a personal journal that has an exposed spine and painted covers. The binding allows the book to open completely flat to any page, making it ideal for drawing or writing. The sections are sewn through a concertina guard using a French Link stitch over tapes.
A prominent feature of this workshop is the painted covers. Students will apply multiple layers of thinned-down paint, creating a deep depth of surface by playing with colors and textures. In addition, the book has a recessed niche on the front cover for a unique shrink-art label made by the participants. The final touch is a loop and bone clasp closure on the fore-edge.
Each person will make one 96-page journal which measures 7 ¾ by 5 inches. Open to all.
Materials fee payable to instructor directly the day of the class: $30.00 per student
Student tool list: (many of these are available if needed) Bone Folder, Pencil, Metal Ruler, Scissors, Triangle (either 45 or 30/60 degrees), X-acto Knife or snap-off knife, sharp blades, Utility Knife, heavy-duty kind, new blade, Cutting Mat, 2 Glue Brush, small and medium size, 2-3 Paint Brushes, flat or round, about ½ inch and smaller, Colored Pencils (instructor prefers the Prismacolor brand), Rag
Optional: Divider, Jewelry’s Saw (only if you already have one), Apron, Reading Glasses
